Coast Guard rescues father, 2 sons from capsized boat off Lanai

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The U.S. Coast Guard on Saturday rescued a man and two children after their boat capsized off Lanai.
According to the Coast Guard, rescuers heard a mayday call around noon from a man reporting his boat had capsized after being swamped by a wave.
The Coast Guard launched a HC-130 Hercules airplane to assist in the search.
Just after 5 p.m., crews spotted the 16-foot boat about 7 miles south of Manele Harbor.
The man and his two sons, ages 8 and 12, were seen clinging to the hull.
They were not wearing life jackets, officials said.
The helicopter crew hoisted all three from the water and transported them back to safety.
No injuries were reported.
Weather conditions at the time were 9 mph winds and 3- to 5-foot seas.
